What are the benefits of joining?
When you join, you get access to our database of the airports world-wide with an actual or planned rail link - over 300 of them. The basic listing gives brief details, including (separately) the funding method and the fare charged - but more information is available to members on request. You can view a sample from our database on our Database Extract page. (Our database is now on-line and can be accessed through the Members Only area).
We also have to charge UK Value Added Tax (VAT) at current rates to members based in the UK and to those based elsewhere in the EU unless they can prove they are registered for VAT in their own country. Members based outside the European Union do not have to pay VAT. Members paying VAT will be sent a receipted VAT invoice on request after we have received their payment.
IARO organises, sponsors and co-operates with a number of conferences and workshops. You are entitled to a discount of at least 10% on selected conferences and workshops (in particular, the regular Air Rail Conferences). Most of these include technical site visits - excellent networking opportunities, as well as a chance to see what really works elsewhere. Also included is the free dissemination of your publicity at conferences, exhibitions and trade shows we attend.
You also get a magazine - Air Rail Express - six times a year. This has updates on the latest news and developments in the airport railway industry - who is doing what and why. The magazine costs £100 a year to non-members (plus £25 for each additional copy to the same address). Advertising rates are available on request: as a member you get a 25% discount on advertising rates. To download a sample edition of Air Rail Express (104KB) please click here.
Every year we publish the IARO Yearbook which describes our world-wide membership - who you are and what you do. You may, if you wish, take advertising space too. The Yearbook goes to members, to industry contacts, to key decision makers, and is also distributed at our conferences and the exhibitions we attend. Excellent free publicity for you! (Note: advertising in the IARO Yearbook is restricted to members only).
You get access to the outputs of our Task Groups, working on common problems affecting you. There are opportunities to contribute to Task Groups and ensure that they work for you - by influencing priorities, by participation in discussions and research, and by your own inputs.

Who can join?
Any organisation or company who has an interest in Air Rail links. Please note that we do not have an individual membership - this is an organisation for companies, organisations and academic institutions of all sizes.
Membership is multi-modal and multi-national.
 |
40% of our members are UK based (including global companies like Mott MacDonald and Steer Davies Gleave). |
 |
40% are based elsewhere in Europe. |
 |
The remaining 20% are from America, the Far East or Australia. |
 |
A third are railway operators. |
 |
A quarter are airports, very few are airlines (although we are working hard to change this!) |
 |
The rest are manufacturers, conference organisers, consultants or industry groups. |
What does membership cost and how to pay?
It costs £2,000 pounds sterling a year, although there is provision for academic institutions and very small consultancies to get a 75% discount.
Ideally the payment should be in pounds Sterling or US Dollars: if not, its equivalent in your own currency is acceptable. Cheques should be made payable to the International Air Rail Organisation. If you wish to pay by bank transfer, please contact us: details of our Sterling and US Dollar accounts are available on request.
